Lent Day 8

Good Afternoon!

Today, we are asked to read Galatians 2:20 and Luke 9:18-24 for our devotional.

The title of this devotional says it all.  No gimmicks.  No fancy sales pitch.  No messing around.  Jesus offers us a priceless promise.  "If anyone would come after me, let them deny themself and take up their cross daily and follow me."  This is all about sanctification!  This is how, as John Welsey would put it, we "seek perfection in love".  We turn from the ways of the world and live our life following "The Way", Jesus Christ.  Grace, mercy, hope, compassion, and justice, all in love, become a reality in the new life that Jesus offers each one of us each day.

Today, we are called to reflect on what we've gained by walking in His steps.

As I have continued to walk in His steps, I have been blessed again and again.  I have found confidence, peace, and joy in my daily living when I know that I am pursuing Jesus.  I have been blessed with a gorgeous wife and three wonderful children.  As I've walked in His steps, I have found my true calling and purpose: ministry.  Ministry has been a journey that has proved to be an opportunity for continued growth (seeking perfection in love) and a place where I am blessed to be present for others on their journeys; sometimes beginning their journey in baptism and sometimes ending their journey here as they transition to the eternal.

I pray that you are able to see all of the wonderful and amazing things you have gained by walking in His steps!

Blessings,

Pastor Jesse
