Lent Day 11

Good morning!

Snow.... who would've guessed!?

Today, the Scripture readings are Matthew 11:28 and Deuteronomy 8:1-10.

"Are we there yet?" Yes, today is about the perceived waiting along the journey. I remember several times during my time in seminary when working full time, going to school full time, being a part-time time pastor, and a husband with 3 kids was wearing on me. I'd plead with God to just "get there" because I wasn't sure how much longer I could keep it all together. Of course, God reminded me of His promises, the promised land, and living into my calling, which almost immediately would bring rest to my soul.

Today, we are asked to reflect on some of our favorite Bible verses and why they are meaningful in our lives. I have 2 that I'll share:

Romans 12:1-2 - "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will."

I love this verse because it always encourages me to think outside of the standards of this world and to seek God in all things, no matter what the world has going on I am called to give it my all. It encourages continued growth and transformation in my life.

Ephesians 4:15-16 - "Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him, the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work."

Sometimes, the reality of this world is exceptionally harsh, which can make us harsh in nature. This passage calls us to speak in love, to build one another up, and is a call for unity. In our divisive world, we need this! We need the "whole body" of Christ to build itself up, not tear itself apart!

What are a few of your favorites?

Blessings,

Pastor Jesse
