Meet the Team

Steve Walker, Lead Pastor

Steve has been a pastor since 1984 and was ordained an Elder in the South Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1990. His educational background is a bit off norm for most pastors. His undergraduate degree is in Physics and has taught those classes at Olivet Nazarene University, Ivy Tech and Indiana University East. With Masters degrees in Religion and Divinity, Steve is driven to apply his Christian faith in ways that speak to the post-modern world. He loves the unique ministry of Lead Pastor and enjoys participating in and leading ministry at Emmanuel.
Perfection wasn't meant for humans.

Ruth Ann Gillespie, Children’s Ministries

I began at Emmanuel 19 years ago as the Preschool Director and have loved seeing the program grow! This has led me to my position as Children’s Ministry Director which includes overseeing all of Emmanuel’s Children’s programs, Emmanuel Christian School, and Upward Sports Ministry. My husband, Drew, and I have been married for 33 years with two children in their twenties, Scott and Shannon both of whom are getting married during the summer of 2015! We have two dogs, Jaxon and Sadie who rule our household! A fun fact about me is that I was born on 12/25 at 12:25.
Children inspire me and helping them learn about God and His love for them is the reason that I do what I do.

Debbie Parker, Student Discipleship Director/Community Life Director

In 2011, I joined Emmanuel’s staff and have enjoyed reaching our community for Christ. My ministry background includes working in a wide variety of church settings from new to old and everything in between. I am a happy wife, mom, and foster mom.
Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes. ~Oscar Wilde

Beth Anderson, Operations and Discipleship

I have been on staff at Emmanuel since 2004 and have served in a number of roles as a church staff member. In my current position of Discipleship and Operations Director, I coordinate programs that focus on spiritual growth but I also oversee much of the day to day operations of the church. I have been married to my best friend, Tony for 18 years. One of my greatest privileges is being a mother to our 4 children, AJ, Riley, Ryann and Kyle. I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family.
It is exciting to serve the Lord at Emmanuel and see people take ownership of their faith and live out a life that reflects the light of Jesus to the world.

Kyler Welch, Director of Worship

I grew up in a pastor’s home with four brothers. The family moved between Michigan, Oklahoma, and North Carolina, so I experienced some of the cultural diversity of the United States. I grew up singing in the church and taking private piano lessons through my college years. I attended The Master’s College in Santa Clarita, CA, where I graduated in with a B.A. in Church Music and then went on to earn a master’s degree in music from Fresno State University. I met my wife Jennifer at The Master’s College, where we both traveled in various music groups, representing the college on weekends and during the summer months, traveling through the United States, as well as the United Kingdom, Russia, and Ukraine. We have five children: Emily, Kayla, Chad, Brooke, and Mark.
Whatever I can do to make worship solely about God brings me to what worship is all about.
