The AED was given to Emmanuel at a reduced cost by Mended Hearts Chapter 350. Mended Hearts representatives Marv Norman and Maureen Price are presenting the AED to Pastor Steven Walker along with a couple (Dave and Barb Ryberg) who prayerfully and financially support this program.
Mended Hearts is a national and community-based non-profit organization that has been offering the gift of hope to heart disease patients, their families and caregivers. To offer this hope Mended Hearts provides a variety of programs. One such program is the ability to offer AED devices to churches, schools, and other organizations through a partial subsidy with a few requirements from the recipient.
Recognized for its role in facilitating a positive patient-care experience, Mended Hearts has provided over 60 years of service. They have over 300 local chapters and satellites nationwide, and partners with 460 hospitals and rehabilitation clinics. Mended Hearts offers services to heart patients through visiting programs, support group meetings and educational forums as well. The congregation was reminded that a heart scan can cost as little as $49 and an EKG can cost as little as $10. Both of these tests can early detect a heart problem through these specialized tests. One test measures the calcium containing plaque in the arteries and the other test measures the electrical responses of the heart valves. Early detection can help the doctor identify possible coronary artery disease before you could even be showing signs or symptoms. Prevention is promoted before you would be in need of the AED device.
