Your Wedding at Emmanuel UMC

May we be among the first to say congratulations! A wedding is one of the most memorable occasions in your life. We believe that a wedding ceremony is both sacred and joyful; sacred for it is an opportunity to experience God’s presence in a unique way, and joyful because it is the beginning of your marriage - full of hope and promise. We are pleased that you are considering Emmanuel as the location for your wedding. This brochure is designed to guide you in the process of preparing for marriage and planning a wedding in our facility. The pastor and the church staff will work with you in the hopes of making your wedding a memorable event of hope and faith. We are delighted to walk with you during the pre-marital process and will be sharing with you specific tools that we believe will help create a joyful marriage that is capable of withstanding the test of time.

Procedures for Scheduling a Wedding

Contact the church office at 773-4406 to inform us of the date and time you are considering for your wedding.  Weddings date/time should be set on the church calendar at least three (3) months in advance. Our Director of Weddings will return your call. The submitted paperwork that she will give to you, along with a non-refundable $100 deposit (applicable to your total wedding cost) will reserve the date of your wedding. This is due within two (2) weeks or the wedding will be taken off the church calendar. Weddings will not be scheduled in conflict with other church programs or worship.  We do not schedule weddings on Sundays, Ash Wednesday, during Holy Week (from Palm Sunday through Easter), on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

All policies and fees subject to change prior to completing the Wedding Contract.

Pre-Marital Counseling

We require pre-marital counseling for every couple married at Emmanuel UMC.  The purpose of this counseling is to assist you in building a Godly marriage.  An Emmanuel pastor will meet with the wedding couple during the months prior to the wedding.  At the initial session, the scope of pre-marital counseling will be discussed with the wedding couple.

Policies and General Information

  • Music and Readings:  Since the celebration of marriage is one of the worship events of the church, all music is expected to be appropriate for use in worship.  Due to the complexities of our organ, the Emmanuel staff organist plays for all weddings.  Exceptions may be made to this rule after consultation with the staff organist.  The staff organist and the pastor in charge of your celebration must approve all music.  The readings selected for your wedding should also reflect the sacred and joyful nature of this event.  Prior to the ceremony, the pastor must approve all readings

  • Flowers and Decorations:  Flowers and any decorations are the responsibility of the wedding couple.  They must be removed after the ceremony.  EUMC is not responsible for any decorations left after the activity has adjourned. If the floral arrangements are to be left for use in the church for the following Sunday, your Wedding Advisor should be notified as soon as possible prior to the wedding. Our sanctuary is frequently decorated for special liturgical occasions during the year.  These decorations take precedence over other sanctuary activities.  If your wedding is scheduled for a time when these special liturgical decorations are present, your wedding decorations need to be planned in coordination with the liturgical decorations. The altar may be moved back, and the pulpit moved to the east in the chancel allowing an unobstructed view from the left corner.  However, no sanctuary furnishings, choir chairs, or altarware are to be removed.  The sanctuary and/or other rooms of the church used must be put back into order before departure. Only silk flower petals maybe dropped on the aisle.

  • Candles:  A candelabra is available for use, including the candles for them.  Unfortunately, our pews do not accommodate aisle candelabras.  Candles may be used in the windows if accompanied by a hurricane globe and base. Clear, non-reflective drop clothes must be used under all candles.

  • Photographers and Video Equipment:  As the wedding ceremony is considered a worship service, no flash photography is to be used once the bride has reached the front of the sanctuary until the recessional begins.  Please mention this in your program and to your photographer.  Stationary video camera placement will be discussed with your videographer the day of the wedding in order to ensure his or her success as well as the least amount of interruption to the service.

  • Aisle Runner: Aisle runners are NOT used at Emmanuel.

  • The Rehearsal:  Unless otherwise arranged, the wedding rehearsal will be held at 6 p.m. the evening prior to your wedding day and will last approximately one hour.  Everyone in the wedding party should be present for the rehearsal.  In order to finish in a timely manner, it is important that all the members of your wedding party be prompt in their arrival at the rehearsal, so please advise them accordingly.

  • The Marriage License:  Please present the wedding license to your Wedding Advisor two weeks prior to the wedding.

  • Payments:  Payment of all fees is due in full two weeks prior to your wedding date.  You may make payments if desired.  Checks should be made payable to Emmanuel United Methodist Church; please indicate “Wedding Payment” in the memo section, along with the date of your wedding.  A separate security deposit check of $100 is required.  This check will be returned to you after it has been determined that you meet the stipulations stated in your contract.

  • Send-off:  Bells, bubbles, or live flower petals may be distributed by the exit doors to be used outside the church.   Birdseed, rice, or confetti is not to be used.  Balloons may not be released.

  • Dressing Rooms:  These rooms are to be picked up and left in good order.  Please no drink or food that will stain clothes.

  • Smoking and Alcohol:  Smoking and alcoholic beverages, illegal substances, firearms, inappropriate language, and other (non-Christian) religious practices are not permitted on any EUMC property.  Failure to abide by this policy could result in the retention of your security deposit.
  • Facility Usage:  Each wedding party will have four (4) hours’ use of the church on the day of the wedding.  Additional time may be granted at the discretion of your Wedding Advisor and may incur additional fees
